Weekend Cooking; Steak marinade/Le Creuset

Weekend cooking, hosted by Beth Fish Reads,  is open to anyone who has any kind of food-related post to share: Book (novel, nonfiction) reviews, cookbook reviews, movie reviews, recipes, random thoughts, gadgets, fabulous quotations, photographs. If your post is even vaguely foodie, feel free to grab the button and link up anytime over the weekend. Please link to your specific post, not your blog's home page. One day we went into Publix supermarket and the demonstrator was cooking NY strip steaks in a Le Creuset grill pan. Since our gas grill died, we've been tossed up what to do but after tasting how delicious, tender and moist the steak was, I immediately used my gift certificate from CSN for a Le Creuset 10" grill pan. I checked all over the internet and the prices were anywhere from $90.00 to $210.00. CSN's price was $64.95! Unbelievable bargain. It was delivered in 3 days and we have now cooked steaks in it several times and they are every bit as delicious as the sample we had at Publix.

The following marinade recipe is from Publix Apron's recipes:

1 1/4 lb. boneless NY strip steaks
1/2 c. Ken's steakhouse sun-dried tomato vinaigrette
1 package brown gravy mix ( about an ounce) I just used the Publix brand.
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
large zip top bag

Preheat grill pan. Place vinaigrette and dry gravy mix in zip-top bag, shake to mix. I just sort of smushed them together. Season steaks and place in bag with marinade. Let stand 10 minutes.

Place steaks on grill (demonstrator used piece of non -stick foil in bottom of pan for a no mess clean up) and tent loosely with foil or if using gas grill, close lid, discarding excess marinade. Grill 4-5 min per side or until 145 degrees F (for medium rare) Yum uh uh uh um!!!

I would never have tried this recipe without sampling it first because I don't particularly like sun-dried tomatos but in a vinagrette as a marinade- it's delicious!

  1. Sounds delicious! Are you using the grill pan on your stove top?

  2. Yes I am Kathy, that's the beauty of this for us because we no longer have a grill.

  3. I have a grill but that foil lined easy cleanup idea sounds cool.
as does the marinade..gravy mix huh?

  4. This sounds delicious! I'm going to copy the recipe and give it a try soon. Thanks!

  5. I don't eat meat, so your yummy recipe is not for me but I love Le Creuset. There is a factory outlet not far from where I live and they have great deals there. Just the stuff is so very heavy to carry around :).

  6. What fabulous deal on that grill pan. Wow! I've always wanted Le Creuset, but can't justify replacing all my pots and pans.

Love the idea of using that nonstick foil for easy cleanup.

  7. Well they made a sale at that demo ... glad to hear you got a good deal and it worked out at home too. Mine never do.

  8. I have never owned a Le Creuset, but I have thought that I need some kind of indoor grill and/or griddle. This is a great review of the pan - and a wonderful recipe to boot. I will file away for when we have a bit more money.

  9. What a great solution for people who want to grill without having a big grill sitting around. I learned another new thing: I didn't know they had non-stick foil. It's now on my list.

  10. Sounds yummy indeed and now I think I may have to invest in a pan like this for those sub zero days when I don't want to grill outside in the snowbanks!!

  11. I've been wanting to buy one of those grilling pans, but the hubby keeps saying they're too pricey. But now I think I really have to have one, whatever they cost. Thanks for helping me decide!

  12. I have a grill pan similar to this and love it. Need to try your recipe...thanks Kaye

  13. Kaye this sounds really tasty! And being able to make it in a Le Creuset by using the gift certificate is even better! I love Le Creuset cookware! I have 2 large dutch oven that I cook everything in. Now I may have to check out the grill pan! :-) And I'm going to have to check out non-stick foil too!

Thanks for the recipe! And enjoy that wonderful grill pan!

  14. I want that pan!!! I want that steak....mmm... Must get one. Great post! (can you tell I am food motivated? ) ha ha

    Have a great week.
