Saturday Snapshot: How'd I get here so fast?

Snapshot Saturday is hosted by Alyce of At Home with Books. To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don't post random photos that you find online.

The other day as TBG was working in the front yard, he noticed some cars slowing down as they came over the hill. Then he noticed this little guy  sitting in the middle of the road so he went out and carried him across the street in the direction he was heading.  *sigh* My hero!

There used to be a larger one of these turtles that had a home out in our back yard but we haven't seen him for a long time. There was a turtle who got  run over quite a while back and that may have been "our" turtle. This is a much smaller one. I'd like to think it is the older turtle's offspring.

** Since I couldn't reply to Edgar's
comment by e mail, I thought I would add a little note here. These are actually endangered gopher tortoises and if anyone would like to find out more about them, here is a great link.

  1. Yay for the Big Guy! We have lots of turtles around here because there are 2 ponds in our neighborhood. Those things move faster than you think.

  2. Once there was a turtle in the road, crossing across from the lake to the other side of the street by our house when we were on our way to church. My husband got out to move him safely across the street, and the turtle peed all over his pants! He had to go home and change! I would still stop for turtles though!

  3. Saving turtles is so much more worthwhile than saving bunnies which hop around way too much to catch. Here's My Saturday Snapshot

  5. He is a cute fella, glad he got some help. Maybe the joke should go, why did the turtle cross the road?

  6. Nice! I do that too.... and on the bike trail as I know someone coming around a corner may not see them crossing the trail.

  9. Yay TBG! So sweet! I'm glad some cars slowed down for this cute turtle before TBG rescued him. I wonder where the turtle was going or where he'd been?!

  10. Where are they from? Are they like snails and come nowhere?

  12. It's so dangerous for the slow moving ground creatures. Good thing they have people who watch out for them. I have never seen a turtle walking around but maybe it's too cold for them where I live.

  14. OMG, he is huge. I don't see turtles around here much, but I'm sure they are around somewhere in the summer. Fun picture Kaye.

  15. What a great guy! Years ago when we lived on the farm, I had a turtle visit at my front door. The dog just laid in the flower garden and watched it. I got a few snaps of it also. I don't know where it was headed, but after the picture taking, I went back in the house to do my work and the next time I looked out it was gone.

  22. WTG TBG!! He's a cutie. The turtle, I mean. Well, I guess TBG could also be a cutie, but I've never seen him. I'll just quit while I'm ahead. ;) Nice photo.
