Saturday Snapshot: Work in progress

Snapshot Saturday is hosted by Alyce of At Home with Books. To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don't post random photos that you find online.

In the process of making two new afghans for the guest bedroom. I like this fan and feather pattern; it's so easy and almost mindless except for the 3rd row. Good thing because I'm not really a knitter other than this type of project.  Here is the pattern:

Cast on 192 stitches
knit 6 rows for border

row 1: knit
row 2: purl
row 3: knit 2 tog 4 times, yo knit one 8 times, k2 tog 8 times, yo k1 8 times etc. until last 8 stiches which you knit 2 together 4 times
row 4: knit

repeat pattern until desired length
knit 6 rows for border
bind off

I've also made this one but skipped the 6 row border and then crocheted around the edges twice  with a contrasting color. The edges will be very pointed scallops. Using Red Heart super saver yarn 364 yds skein (7 oz worsted weight). I"ll probably use 4 skeins per afghan.

Are you a crafter? What are you working on now??

*** After replying to some of the comments, I realized I never said what size needle. I'm using a  round needle, size 10 1/2.

  2. Beautiful! I'm just learning to knit ... deciphering your instructions will be next winter's goal ... I'm strictly a knit a row, purl a row girl right now. Scarves are my ticket!

  6. I used to do needlework, crocheting, I even started to learn to knit a sweater for Grace when she was 2. She's 20 now so I don't think it will fit if I ever finish it. Here's Mine

  7. I'm envious of anyone who can create such wonderful things! My mother used to crochet beautiful afghans...I don't think she knit, though.

I made one thing, a long time ago, and it didn't turn out very well...sigh.

Yours looks gorgeous. Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

  8. Lovely pattern. I am all thumbs with knitting needles and fear I might stab myself if I tried that! Crafts are not my thing but I can create most anything with a sewing machine.

  9. Lovely color! Beautiful afghan. I love the feather and fan pattern.
I currently working on a beret, knitting it top down. And of course I have socks on the needles!

  10. You're "not really a knitter"? That afghan looks beautiful! I really should learn to knit someday, I know (or read blogs by) so many people who knit.

  11. I am a crafter, but I couldn't possibly show you all that I'm working on. I think I might have commitment issues. I love your afghan, and I hope you don't mind that I copied the pattern, I haven't knit for a long time, but I really feel like getting back to it. Thanks for posting such a lovely project.

  12. Love that afghan pattern.
I've knit sweaters, hats, scarves, mittens and socks, but not an afghan.

    Beautiful in design and colour.

  13. I am not crafty - especially with things like this. I know how to do a basic crochet and that's it.

  14. Lovely! I am not much of a crafter. My grandma taught me to crochet but I haven't picked up a needle in years.

  15. Beautiful work! I am quilter and am about to start blocks for a block challenge I am in. Maybe I will use those for next week's snapshot.

  16. Love that pattern! I'm a stitcher currently working on a needlepoint design I made for my husband's Nook Simple Touch. If it turns out well, I know I'll be posting about it on my blog. :-)

  19. Nice knitting. Used to "try" but had to give it up for lack of talent. I love the look of this blog! I'm thankful to Alyce's Saturday Snapshot challenge for bringing me here!

  20. Well, I definitely do not know much knitting, but this piece does look intricate to me.
As for my own craftiness? Hmmm -- poetry? Does that count?
Also, I wrote two songs in this past week. My talents tend to lie among words and lyrics. And singing. And drumming. And eating hamburgers!

  21. Ooooh, so pretty!! You're very talented! I enjoy knitting but I've only made scarves and a baby blanket. I need to learn to read a pattern. I always have to have some kind of craft going to keep my hands busy especially while watching TV.

You will have to show us your finished projects!

  22. Lovely pattern.

I imagine it is a difficult colour to work with at night.

  23. Lovely! Looks like a nice easy project to work on. I haven't been knitting at all, which is so unusual for me. However, I have a project in mind that should get me knitting again. I hope to start it soon. Thanks for the pattern!

  25. I am not a crafter but I admire crafting in others. This looks great. I love that you wouldn't be too hot in it with all the "ventilation."

  26. That is amazing!!! You are very talented and I wish so bad that I lived next door so you could show me how to make this too!!

  27. That's a pretty pattern and color, Kaye! I've always wanted to learn how to knit, but haven't (as yet). I primarily do counted cross-stitch, stamping and scrapbooking. For the past three months I have been working through a booklet of cross-stitch Christmas ornaments, for the next holiday. Am on the last one now, and then it's on to something new!

  28. Knitting is somehow beyond me..but otherwise, I am in fact quite crafty.

  29. Hi Kaye,

I love the pattern you are using, like you say, simple yet effective.

I used to do a lot of knitting, but these days time seems to be something of a problem, so I usually find myself crocheting straightforward blankets, which are suitable for sale in the charity shop where I volunteer.

I generally make them square in one single piece, multi-coloured as I tend to use oddments of wool which are donated to me.

I have never been any good at sewing, fixing a button is about as adventurous as I get with a needle and thread.

Have a good week and I hope the knitting keeps growing well.

    Yvonne

  30. Your pattern is quite beautiful. I'm so glad you gave the pattern. I'm working on a shrug for my daughter-in-law that calls for two 9nches of lace all the way around. It is one of those where every single row and stitch is different. I can't tell you how many times I've ripped it out. I'm going to give your pattern a try. It has to be better thatn what I'm doing. I just have to figure out how to go from 196 stitches to about 20. I'll work on it.

  31. This is really pretty Kaye. I think I might try this pattern. My hands are giving me some trouble so I've had to put my knitting aside for a bit again but I'll pick it up soon.
