Saturday Snapshot: All aboard!

Snapshot Saturday is hosted by Alyce of At Home with Books. To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don't post random photos that you find online.

Since TBG is a railroad fanatic, if there is one anywhere near where we visit, of course, we have to take the train ride. This is a narrow gauge train that can run up to a whopping speed of 10 miles an hour (we were going 3 mph). The people on the walking trail beside the train were going faster than we were. After our yearly trek north to Cape Cod, we headed to Maine to visit our friends in Eliot and then on to a day in Portland.

  1. oh no!Please don't let Hubby know there's a train in Portland. We go there at least once a year and I really don't want to go on another train ride!

    1. Karen, don't waste your time riding this. It's about 15 minutes. Honestly, if we had known that we would have just walked alongside the train on the the trail. Pretty spot, though, and the items on display inside are interesting. I take it your hubby is a train fan too. We went to Branson, MO once and ended up driving to Flippen, Arkansas just to ride the train.

  6. I do love trains, and whenever I see one or ride on one, my mind catapults backward to nostalgic moments. Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

  8. I love trains too, and train noises - they're the best, like at night, when you're half asleep. And of course I love garden railways as well, although we don't have one but I love seeing them!

  9. "Once upon a time there was and engineer, Choo-choo Charlie was his name I hear, He had an engine and he sure had fun. He used lots of 'Good & Plenty' to make his train run ... Good & Plenty, Good & Plenty, Good & Plenty ...." - Sorry, your photos jogged that memory!

  10. Have to laugh here... my husband is the same way about trains. I remember a journey years ago on the 'Battenkill Rambler' that was so slow, it put all three of our girls to sleep!

  11. What a pretty train (though that phrase feels funny!) I love how shiny and red it is.

  12. I live less than a mile from the train station. We get a bit of everything coming through... freight, commuters, and sometimes a charming old train too... Oh, and, The Polar Express at Christmas! After riding the commuter train to the city for work for 20 years I guess I have to like trains.

  13. We have an Amtrack line that runs through our town but I've never ridden it. I wouldn't imagine riding an Amtrack would be the same experience as riding this train :)

  14. That is so funny (that they were walking faster than the train)! I've never seen a narrow gauge train before.

  17. I love the pictures - your trains always seem to be a different design to old British ones. There was a narrow gauge rail track when we visited the Isle of Man last year but I don't know if it would the same size as the one you mention.

  25. Gage is loving trains right now so I see lots of train rides in our future!

  26. The train personnel look happy that you are taking their photos. Very nice.

The trains passed through our small village where I grew up and I rode the train to the city when I was in college and enjoyed it.

When you come to Napa Valley, CA, we have the Wine Train that passes through the valley and vineyards- with breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also events like mystery theater, events with children and others.

  27. Yay for The Big Guy!! He looks mighty handsome as an engineer.

We have an antique train near here but I haven't been on it since the kids were small. It really is nice (and it's a slow ride too) and quite popular for field trips. I have a friend who teaches K and rides it every year! Maybe TBG would like to check it out? :)

  28. That's the kind of train you could have run and jumped on, like in the old days. Here's Mine
