Paperback, 304 pages
Expected publication: July 3rd 2012 by Berkley
With temperatures hovering near the 114 degree mark, business at the Fairy Tale Cupcake Bakery is really slow. The two owners, Angie DeLaura and Mel Cooper are tossed up about taking some time off until their newest and youngest employee, Oz, suggests they sell cupcakes out of his newly acquired van. Well, that is, after he gets it running again and does some much needed rehab on it. When the van broke down, the bakery crew was rescued by Slim and Tammy Hazard, owners of the Juniper Pass rodeo. They invite the crew to sell cupcakes as the next upcoming rodeo. It sounds like a better idea than sweltering in Scottsdale.
Little did the owners, Angie, Mel and Tate and their two employees, Oz, and Marty know what would be in store for them at the rodeo besides selling cupcakes. Who could forsee the obnoxious barbeque vendors that would park beside them or the owner of the rodeo getting shot? Then there is that pesky little detail about the overly conceited Ty Stokes getting murdered. He thought he was the star of the rodeo but obviously someone else thought differently. An anonymous witness tells the sheriff they saw Oz in the general area just before the murder.
Now you know that Angie and Mel can't let that accusation go too far. They have to do their own sleuthing . . . .
Fun, fun, fun series! Jenn McKinlay has become one of my favorite cozy writers over the last few years. Even though this is #4 in the series, it can definitely be a stand alone. I would recommend you read #3 as it introduces Oz and Marty; besides that, it is one hoot of a read! 4****
