Snapshot Saturday is hosted by Alyce of At Home with Books. To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don't post random photos that you find online.
Another family oldie. This one is my grandmother Carrie, again, with my father (Russell), his brother Winnie and their sister Edith. From the looks of them, I would say my dad, who is the oldest of the three, was about 10 or 11 which would make my uncle 8 or 9 years old. My aunt was about 5 or so in this photo. The collar on my uncle's shirt almost makes him look like Eddie Munster- all he needs is the widow's peak hairdo.
Looks like the love of reading is passed down through the generations. I guess the apple didn't fall too far from the tree.

That is a wonderful photo. So many times the people in older photos are so stoic it's hard to capture their personality.
ReplyDeleteA natural and interesting shot, although it's posed, is enjoyable to look at.
ReplyDeleteI love that they're reading in a formal photo. Wonderful pic!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderfully relaxed shot for the times. It's soft and loving...like a book illustration. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Here's MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT
I love that they posed with a book!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great picture! I wonder what book they're reading?
ReplyDeleteThis is a really great photo. Aren't you glad you know who's who.
ReplyDeleteIt is them all centered around a book that is wonderful! That would be a picture for your wall!
ReplyDeleteThis is a fabulous old photo, so professional it almost looks like it could be a piece of art!
ReplyDeleteI love that they are all reading, and have had similar ideas for a family photo. This is great, and I loved it. Thanks for sharing it with us!
ReplyDeleteNow that is a photo that totally captures my heart! I would blow that one up and hang it front and center!!
ReplyDeleteA like this a lot. Looks like it was done by a photographer ahead of his/her times. Almost all of the old family photos I have show very serious, unsmiling people, even at happy occasions like weddings.
ReplyDeleteYou made me laugh with the Eddie Munster comparison! I wouldn't have noticed it, but after you pointed it out it was easy to see the similarity. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely photo! As others have said, it's much warmer and more casual that a lot of photos from that time period.
ReplyDeleteSaturday Snapshot
Wow, so nice how that was set up!
ReplyDeleteI will get to my box of old ones yet..
What a lovely photo! I love old family photos--it's so wonderful to have that history, and it brings people to life to have photos of them.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great shot! Really a wonderful photo to look back on. I need to go look at our old family photo's, they are fun to go through.
ReplyDeleteI love this one! Carrie is a very popular name in my family, too.
ReplyDeleteAwesome old photo. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly- you were meant to be a reader.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing photo. It's lovely.
ReplyDeleteAnd Grandmother Carrie is so beautiful.
After reading your commentary I looked back and LAUGHED about the Munster thing.
You are so right!
I just love this!! I wish you could use it in your header. I love that they are all entranced in a book!!!!!! I imagine it was a big thing to get your photo taken back then so to have everyone reading a book and not looking at the camera really says something.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful family photo. Thanks for sharing this treasure with us!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful family photo and you are so lucky to have it! I love the book as well. It's the perfect touch! (The collar does crack me up though!) :)
