From the publisher:

New York Times bestselling author Lauren Willig "spins a web of lust, power and loss" (Kate Alcott) that is by turns epic and intimate, transporting and page-turning

As a lawyer in a large Manhattan firm, just shy of making partner, Clementine Evans has finally achieved almost everything she’s been working towards—but now she’s not sure it’s enough. Her long hours have led to a broken engagement and, suddenly single at thirty-four, she feels her messy life crumbling around her. But when the family gathers for her grandmother Addie’s ninety-ninth birthday, a relative lets slip hints about a long-buried family secret, leading Clemmie on a journey into the past that could change everything. . . .

What follows is a potent story that spans generations and continents, bringing an Out of Africa feel to a Downton Abbey cast of unforgettable characters. From the inner circles of WWI-era British society to the skyscrapers of Manhattan and the red-dirt hills of Kenya, the never-told secrets of a woman and a family unfurl.

Doesn't this sound wonderful? April seems so far away but if 2013 goes by as quickly as this year, it will be here before we know it.

Waiting on Wednesday: Postcards from Cedar Key by Terri DuLong

Paperback352 pages
Expected publication: October 30th 2012 by Kensington
ISBN:97807582686
62

From the publisher:

In this poignant novel set amid the close-knit residents of Cedar Key, Florida, New York Times bestselling author Terri DuLong creates a story of old wounds healed--and bright new beginnings . . .

Everyone has been eagerly awaiting the opening of Cedar Key's newest shop, Berkley's Chocolates & Gems. For Berkley Whitmore, moving to the peaceful Florida island is more than a business opportunity. Beneath the bright purple streak in her dark hair lies a woman struggling with self-doubt. In Cedar Key, Berkley hopes to uncover the secrets that rippled through her mother's life, and in time, perhaps fill the gaps in her own.
Berkley's mouthwatering truffles and quirky charm soon draw a wide circle of friends--including the knitting enthusiasts who purchase yarn spun from her two alpacas. To her surprise, Berkley also attracts the admiration of Saxton Tate III, an English mystery author. And with the help of an old-timer local, she begins to piece together the truth about her mother and estranged father. Understanding the past brings a glimpse of what her future could be--if she accepts the love borne on the soft island breeze, and the happiness she's been seeking for so long . . .

Is this not one of the most compelling covers you've seen in a long time? I love this series, not just because I live near Cedar Key, but because the stories draw me in completely. The characters in this series are so real to me, down to earth and heartwarming, just like the author herself.  I was privileged and thrilled to meet Terri in person when she spoke at our local library. Her characters have a lot of her heart and soul in them.

I've reviewed two of Terri's books, Casting About and Sunrise on Cedar Key in the past and really enjoyed them. I'm so looking forward to Postcards from Cedar Key and catching up with all my friends from the island.

Abby insists that he was murdered and pleads with Jill to help find his killer. Jill reluctantly agrees to make a few inquiries and discovers that things don’t add up. As she digs deeper, her actions threaten to rip apart her new family, destroy their hard-earned happiness, and even endanger her own life. Yet Jill can’t turn her back on a child she loves and once called her own.

A Hundred Flowers by Gail Tsukiyama

288 pages
Expected publication: August 7th 2012 by MPS
ISBN 1429961694 (ISBN13: 9781429961691)

Ever since I read Women of the Silk and the sequel, Language of Threads, I've been a huge fan of Tsukiyama's books. The Street of a Thousand Blossoms is one of my all time favorites. It's been a long wait for this new one but I'm sure it will be worth it.

*Sigh* Is it August yet?

From the publisher:

A powerful new novel about an ordinary family facing extraordinary times at the start of the Chinese Cultural Revolution China, 1957. Chairman Mao has declared a new openness in society: “Let a hundred flowers bloom; let a hundred schools of thought contend.” Many intellectuals fear it is only a trick, and Kai Y ing’s husband, Sheng, a teacher, has promised not to jeopardize their safety or that of their young son, T ao. But one July morning, just before his sixth birthday, Tao watches helplessly as Sheng is dragged away for writing a letter criticizing the Communist Party and sent to a labor camp for “reeducation.”

A year later, still missing his father desperately, Tao climbs to the top of the hundred-year-old kapok tree in front of their home, wanting to see the mountain peaks in the distance. But Tao slips and tumbles thirty feet to the courtyard below, badly breaking his leg. As Kai Ying struggles to hold her small family together in the face of this shattering reminder of her husband’s absence, other members of the household must face their own guilty secrets and strive to find peace in a world where the old sense of order is falling. Once again, Tsukiyama brings us a powerfully moving story of ordinary people facing extraordinary circumstances with grace and courage.

Night of the Living Dandelion

Paperback: 336 pages
Publisher: Signet (April 5, 2011)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0451233018
ISBN-13: 978-0451233011

  From Amazon:

"Flower shop owner Abby Knight does not believe rumors that Vlad Serban, friend and employee of Abby's fiancé Marco, is a vampire. But how to explain that Vlad is from Romania, has prominent canines, likes bizarre plants such as bloodwort and Dracula orchid, and dresses entirely in black?
When a local woman is found dead, her body drained of blood, the stakes become life and death. With Vlad the #1 suspect, Abby and Marco race to find the real killer, before Vlad's life really starts to suck. "

This is the 11th book in Kate Collins's flowershop series. I've read quite a few of these, reviewed  Dirty Rotten Tendrils,  and am always happy with the way Kate writes her mysteries; always well constructed and good pacing to the plot. Not to mention I am usually stumped by the mystery. Her characters are always well fleshed out  and believable. This one sounds a little different than her normal plot - a vampire character, no less. It'll be interesting to see how this one turns out.

Kate can be found at Cozy Chicks, her own webpage and at her face book page. Stop in at any of these sites and say hi!

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Laura Childs, one of my all time favorite cozy mystery writers, has another book in her scrapbooking series set in New Orleans coming out in October. Oooh, excitement!

From Amazon.com: With the help of her best friend Ava, Carmela Bertrand is building a giant monster puppet for the Halloween Monsters & Mayhem parade. Things get terrifying earlier than expected when they overhear an argument between Jekyl Hardy and Brett Fowler- and just minutes later they find Fowler's dead body. Carmela has known Jekyl for years and can't believe he'd ever resort to murder, despite the fact that Fowler owed him money. But when another victim is discovered-who also had an unfriendly relationship with Jekyl-Carmela is convinced someone is framing her friend and now must find a way to unmask the real killer.

Sounds like a lot of fun, doesn't it? If you haven't read this series, I would recommend starting from the beginning.

"Beautifully written, powerfully felt, full of both abundant joy and heart-wrenching sorrow, Beachcombers is an extraordinary novel that centers on the bittersweet reunion of three captivating, very different sisters on Nantucket over one gorgeous, exhilarating summer. Abbie Fox hasn’t seen her father or two younger sisters in almost two years, during which she’s jetted around the world and experienced life, if not love. But now Lily, the baby of the family, is sending Abbie urgent emails begging her to return home to Nantucket. Their middle sister, Emma, has taken to her bed, emotionally devastated after the loss of her high-powered stockbroker’s job and a shockingly unexpected break-up with her fiancé. Also, Lily is deeply worried that Marina, the beautiful, enigmatic woman renting their guesthouse, has set her sights on the sisters’ widowed father, Jim. The Fox girls closed ranks years ago after the haunting, untimely death of their mother, but seeing their dad move on with his life forces each of them to take stock. Over the course of the summer, the sisters’ lives grow as turbulent as the unpredictable currents encircling Nantucket. When Abbie encounters an incredibly appealing married man, she breaks her own rules in the name of love, fearing all the while that she’ll regret it. Meanwhile, type-A Emma learns a new definition of success, and strong-minded Lily must reconcile her dreams with reality. Even Marina, who has come to Nantucket to forget heartbreak and betrayal, faces an astonishing turn of events that will find her torn between fate and freedom. At summer’s end, these unforgettable women will face profound choices—and undergo personal transformations that will surprise even themselves. "

Last year I read and reviewed Thayer's Summer House and just loved it! Can't wait for this new one!!
